South Yarra House

Private Garden

South Yarra House sits quietly within a tightly held streetscape, its garden renewed as part of a thoughtful recalibration of home and setting. Working in collaboration with Techne and Beaton Projects, Ayus Botanical's planting approach restores calm, cohesion and an established presence throughout the property.

The design focuses on structure repetition and restraint. Entry sequences are defined by layered planting and controlled form, including advanced Hydrangea paniculata set within oversized traditional terracotta pots and connected by Liriope muscari 'Evergreen Giant' underplanting and clipped Buxus sempervirens, introducing a soft yet measured sense of maturity to the front garden. Elsewhere layered foliage and controlled mass planting shape sheltered courtyards and poolside spaces, allowing privacy and greenery to sit comfortably within the architecture without visual dominance. Each planting selection emphasises longevity and seasonal rhythm, allowing the landscape to shift subtly over time while maintaining a composed character appropriate to its neighbourhood.

Throughout, garden spaces support both everyday use and more animated moments without overpowering the architecture. Freestanding containers are placed to frame outlooks and temper scale across terraces and balconies, while the rooftop garden adopts a metropolitan skyline terrace composure, with loosely hedged Laurus nobilis 'Baby Bay' positioned to accompany sweeping views from the master retreat across the urban canopy to the highrise CBD. The result is a garden that feels renewed rather than remade — a measured, enduring landscape that reinforces architectural clarity while offering a quietly immersive experience.
