Melbourne’s iconic Esplanade Hotel is Ayus Botanical’s fifth project with owners Sand Hill Road and there is something about green landscaping this palatial hotel that captures the imagination like no other.

With a patina of age that navigates a colourful mix of glamorous Victorian seaside hotel, through to dishevelled peeled paint to expose historic layers of building decoration, this landscape project fluctuated between ‘dressing’ a grand old Dame with indoor greenery for her garden parlours, cosy libraries, luxurious salon’s, colonial dining rooms and opulent, secret powder rooms, through to filling the retractable roof beer garden with lush plantings to create a relaxed Australian beach bar.

The way Melbournians connect to ‘The Espy’ with their own stories and sense of ownership meant this was never going to be your typical ‘pub refurbishment’. It is time honoured Victorian grandeur styled to suit our contemporary and relaxed lives.
